INTERPIN-4 Fuel Temperature Calculations

INTERPIN-4, the newest version of the Studsvik Scanpdower fuel temperature code is now available.

INTERPIN-4 has improved capabilities vs. previous versions of INTERPIN, to model high burnup fuel (e.g., 70 GWD/MTU), MOX fuel, and advanced cladding materials (e.g., ZIRLO and M5). These improvements come about due to higher modeling detail than previsouly used in INTERPIN. Specifically, material properties, such as waterside corrosion as well as more detailed intra-pellet power distributions are now modeled.

The new results have improved reactivity and power axial offset agreement with measured data for both steady state and Xenon transient conditions. In addition more precise pin by pin enthalpies in transient calculations are also available via these fuel temperature modeling enhancements in the core transient analysis product, S3K.
